Compassionate care through yoga on the streets of Atlanta.

Mission Statement

At TLC Yoga we believe that compassionate care in an inclusive environment leads to surprising connections and a positive shift in the wellbeing of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. The goal of each yoga class is for students to leave in an improved physical, mental and emotional state from when they arrived.

Care for the wearied mind and body.

Our yoga classes allow overlooked individuals to devote time to self care — a rare opportunity when you’re living outside. We practice meditation techniques for mental clarity, movement to relieve bodily tension and resting poses to aid in overall relaxation.

Small transformations.

Simply getting to the yoga class is a huge step for many of our students. No matter the level of participation, we witness small transformations each time they join class. And we ensure that each student leaves the class in a better state than when they arrived.

It’s typical after a stormy night for this group to be smaller and sleepy. After a recent rough night, some students completed a full practice before their final resting pose while others rested with legs up the chair for most of class. I typically encourage a restful heart opener, but fewer transitions felt more appropriate this particular day.

  • It has been so rewarding to see more people join the TLC yoga class. People consistently ask to make sure it's happening because they're invested in attending regularly. It's a place to slow down, relax, breathe and feel welcome. There are few spaces in the city where people experiencing homelessness can relax without being hassled. There are few places where people are welcomed in a mutual and respectful way — this is a place where that can happen, and the benefits of that kind of care show. I love how Ashley makes the space feel welcoming, especially for those who don't always have access to safe spaces. We love this class and what it has become for the life of our community.
